According to Nikkei news, Japan's three major semiconductor suppliers will join hands to develop advanced chip manufacturing technology.

The plan will integrate canon, a maker of lithography machines, Tokyo Weili, a semiconductor manufacturer, and screen semiconductor solutions, a semiconductor equipment manufacturer.

According to people familiar with the matter, the move will include cooperation with international manufacturers such as TSMC and Intel to seek to recover their lost ground in the global semiconductor competition.

The Advanced Institute of Technology (METI) of Japan will provide about 42.6 billion yen in cooperation with the three advanced industries in Japan.

The project supported by METI seeks to build process technologies of 2 nm and below in the mid-1920s, and plans to build a prototype production line to help develop etching, cleaning and other equipment.
